a5c7b9f00b Dr Victor Frankenstein dies frozen to death and the creature buries him at the cemetery of his family. However he is attacked by demons but he kills one of them and Gargoyles save him and take him to a Cathedral where the Gargoyles Order gathers. The Queen of the Gargoyles Leonore keeps Dr. Frankenstein's journal together with the treasures of the Order and gives the name of Adam to the creature. Then she explains to Adam that there is an ancient war between the Gargoyles that are angels and demons under the command of the Prince Naberius. She also invites Adam to join the Gargoyles in the war against demons, but Adam prefers to isolate in a remote place. Two hundred years later, Adam returns and finds a modern society. Soon he learns that Naberius has the intention of creating an army of soulless corpses to be possessed by demons. The scientist Terra is researching a process to create life and Naberius is seeking Dr Frankenstein's journal to help Terra and raise his army.
Frankenstein's creature finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans.
A "modern dark(er?)* twist" of the classic frankenstein tale, by the maker of "underworld" (i think that's a quite sufficient introduction to begin to realise what's next…) *(more like a shoot shoot bang bang with supernatural beings version of it)

CONTAINS SPOILERS: It manages to grasp nothing though from the atmosphere of an interesting dark novel with suspense, emotion, fear and passion. we have a dark metropolis with Gothic elements (underworld anyone?). we have two factions both with seemingly demonic appearance (underworld anyone? (oh im getting tired of this, aren't you..?)) but the one is considered angelic for some reason (gargoyles) and the other evil (demons). they are in a long waging war that will determine the fate of mankind(un.. OK no comment). and out of nowhere our protagonist gains super importance cause he is going to determine somehow the fate of the war. the demons, the mighty warriors of hell are mere weak humans that can also take an ugly form to gain some extra power (i guess, nothing was specifically proving that though in the film…) that can be easily killed by whatever object has four lines in a specific order (the gargoyle symbol (aka triple cross thingy)) being it a wood from a graveyard, a blunt weapon or even a scar on a demon's body (!, oh yeah it happens with some scratches too if they have the needed shape of course!). apart from surprisingly weak they are also shockingly stupid being unable to reanimate the dead bodies themselves and being in desperate need of two human scientists' help and the notes of dr. frankestein who somehow managed 300 years ago to reanimate a body, with superhuman strength and agility, never aging, with no weakness and smart also (what did you think? that he would reanimate a mindless zombie?). on the other hand we have the gargoyles. do you remember? those statues we sawlittle kids in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and some Gothic medieval temples and buildings? well they are alive! alive, and kicking a**. demonic a** to be specific. they are the watchmen of the night, that guard humanity from the sinister plans of the demons. they have all cool medieval but modernized weapons with their symbol on them that can kill a demon with a single touch. the whole war is supposed to be unfolding in absolute secrecy right under the nose of the humans that are supposed to be living their lives having no idea whatsoever of whats happening. despite that major plot fact we clearly see the demon prince sending in the middle of the city a large garrison of their troops (so many in fact that made me wonder, do any actual people live in this city? (revealing identities plot-hole solved!)) that easily overwhelmed the gargoyle defenses and killed 16 of them (not that they were much more in total. which made me think. if they waged such an attack earlier wouldn't they have won the war? what would a handful of gargoyles do against a legion? the demons had a freaking horde for god's shake.) and all these happening in no secrecy at all every damn person that would happen to walk by or open his window would see a whole freak war happening in front of his eyes. no emotions, no character development, no memorable scenes or dialogues (only the repeating phrase "he/it's alive!" 5 or 6 times in the movie, because the directors thought it would be cool to overuse pointlessly that already overused quote). the two leaders of the factions have no actual wisdom or leading skills. and their lack of insight and change of moods amazes. the main protagonist is having an identity crisis in the midst of the whole thing. and is trying to retrieve his creator's notebook to "learn his true identity". then for no particular reason he went from indifferent cold hearted monster to a devoted protector of mankind that should stop the evil schemes of the demons with the very risk of his own life (or unlife). somewhere around the end of the movie we learn that the whole notebook thing was not much needed and the only thing the demons needed to resurrect their infinite amount of well preserved corpses was to simply turn the current on, thing that they had already considered in their invention, its just that no one thought to press the switch. and so our hero wins in the end, so that the "movie" can conclude that he has a soul after all! and he cannot be possessed by the devil's son. (for some reason he has a son. did he manage to find a wife and give birth at hell somehow!?). because only soulless bodies (but reanimated!) can host a demon. which makes you wonder how all these materialised demons that walk around in the movie were created. and how opposite that is to the quite known phenomenon of demon possessionwe know it from movies like the exorcist, where a living creature with soul is needed for the possession to happen. after losing one hour and a half of my life i was like OH MY GOD. is it really possible that this movie had no redeeming qualities whatsoever…? yes it is i think. watch it only if you are a HARDCORE fan of the genre (with quite some time to lose…)
Based on the previews I had no interest in watching this when it came out. Someday someone will make a movie that's based on the actual book… but so far that hasn't happened. Instead we got some good classic horror films and a whole lot of crappy ones, like this one. It's not surprising that this is basically a superhero movie… chock full of nonsensical action scenes and little in the way of characters we care about. I don't think the acting is bad… but it's hard to tell given how horrible the script is and how the actors are overshadowed by the hyperbolic FX.

I'm sure some people like this movie but I'm not sure who they are… I'm guessing they play lots of video games and watch movies out of the corner of their eye while texting on their phones. For people who actually still pay attention and expect more from films this is downright unwatchable garbage.
Sadly, aptcomparisons to "Underworld" might seem, I, Frankenstein can't even clear that very low bar.
